During the ceremony Natalie presented the award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role to French actor Jean Dujardin for his celebrated performance in the silent film The Artist.

And… we are happy to announce that Natalie won The Actress in a Leading Role Oscar for her performance in ‘Black Swan’. This is what we all were waiting and hoping for, and this is a huge thing for Natalie and all her fans. It is Natalie’s first win in two nominations and follows her supporting actress nomination for “Closer,” which was made in 2004. Here’s what Natalie said in her speech:

Thank you. Thank you so much. This is insane! I truly and sincerely wish that the prize tonight was to get to work with my fellow nominees… I want to thank Luc Besson, who gave me my first job [in 'The Professional'], ['Closer' director] Mike Nichols, who has been my hero. And to everyone who’s ever hired me!… Darren Aronofsky, you are a visionary. I am so blessed to have gotten to work for you… I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to work from such an early age. My beautiful love, Benjamin, who has now given me my most important role of my life. Most importantly, my family, my friends, and my love, thank you so much.

Natalie was nominated for Best Female Lead, and it just became known that she won in this category! Congratulations, Natalie! ‘Black Swan’ also took the prizes in the following categories: best feature, best director for Darren Aronofsky and a cinematography prize for Matthew Libatique.

Before the luncheon started the nominees gave interviews. When one reporter asked Natalie what she might wear to the Oscars, she said, “It’s certainly all about leaving space for growth, but is always surprising, also, that that’s become the conversation instead of the movies now: what you are wearing.” When asked why she chose her Black Swan role, Natalie answered, “I think I was really drawn to the world of dance itself. I always just thought it such a compelling expression through movement not through words. There’s something very internal and true about dance as a mode of expression, and this character finding her artistic voice was something I was really interested by, where men are the directors and women are the stars in a very controlled way. So to find this woman kind of breaking out of that was very interesting to me.

It has become known that Natalie wore Azzaro gown with sequined detail and Roger Vivier black satin clutch. She also had jewellery from Tiffany & Co. And now to the main news: Natalie was one of the night’s big winners as she won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role award for her performance in ‘Black Swan.’ Congratulations, Natalie!
