Natalie talks about one of her latest movies, ‘Love And Other Impossible Pursuits’, her film roles, the stages she’s gone through as an actor and the life lessons she have learned.

One might be forgiven for feeling just a slight pang of envy of Natalie Portman in 2011. She’s just given birth to a healthy baby boy with her ballet choreographer fiance, whom she met on set of Black Swan, for which she won an Oscar. It seems the 30-year-old has ticked pretty much every life-goal box in one calendar year.

Starting her acting career at the tender age of 12, as precocious child assassin Mathilda in Leon, Portman quickly stood out from her peers. By 14, she was starring alongside the likes of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, and yet at 18 she found time to fit in a degree at the prestigious Harvard University, while simultaneously maintaining an intensely private home life.

Now, having won critical acclaim for her portrayal of a striving ballerina in psychological thriller Black Swan, she has expanded her reach yet again, taking on romance, comedy, drama and indie films in the past 12 months and adding production and directing to her already packed CV. And as she takes on the challenge of an unsympathetic mistress who loses her child in Love And Other Impossible Pursuits this month, we ask, what makes Natalie Portman tick?

Natalie talked to UK’s InStyle about strong red lips, taming her curls, her secret perfume trick and more. See scans and read what Natalie told the magazine below!

“My mum taught me to spray fragrance and walk into it. She has a sensitive smell of smell, so I’ve grown up with a great awareness,” says Natalie, revealing why she’s perfect for her new role – as muse of Miss Dior Cherie eau de parfum.

“I associate scents with seasons and places – nuts roasting in New York are Christmas and at college, we used to get hot melted vanilla ice cream in winter, so that smell is delicious. In Tunisia [where she filmed Star Wars], the scent is jasmine. It is the most beautiful and delicate smell – I love floral fragrances.

“A scent that sets you apart makes you feel glamorous and elegant and gives you a different way of walking into a room – it’s part of dressing up.”

And her favourite smell on her fiance, Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied? “Clean and just showered.”
