Natalie is on the cover of September issue of ‘Psychologies’ magazine. You can  see scans in our gallery and read Natalie’s interview below! Natalie talks about one of her latest movies, ‘Love And Other Impossible Pursuits’, her film roles, the stages she’s gone through as an actor and the life lessons she have learned.

One might be forgiven for feeling just a slight pang of envy of Natalie Portman in 2011. She’s just given birth to a healthy baby boy with her ballet choreographer fiance, whom she met on set of Black Swan, for which she won an Oscar. It seems the 30-year-old has ticked pretty much every life-goal box in one calendar year.

Starting her acting career at the tender age of 12, as precocious child assassin Mathilda in Leon, Portman quickly stood out from her peers. By 14, she was starring alongside the likes of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, and yet at 18 she found time to fit in a degree at the prestigious Harvard University, while simultaneously maintaining an intensely private home life.

Now, having won critical acclaim for her portrayal of a striving ballerina in psychological thriller Black Swan, she has expanded her reach yet again, taking on romance, comedy, drama and indie films in the past 12 months and adding production and directing to her already packed CV. And as she takes on the challenge of an unsympathetic mistress who loses her child in Love And Other Impossible Pursuits this month, we ask, what makes Natalie Portman tick?

Natalie talked to The New Zealand Herald about her passions, how family and friends ground her and how she isn’t much of a shopper. Read this very interesting interview below!

Which causes are closest to your heart?
Girls’ education. Seeing how many girls in the world do not have that opportunity, I feel so lucky that I was able to go to school. It affects the rest of their lives, the age at which they have children, their susceptibility to disease, their job, earning power and their status in society. Education really is a powerful way to change the lives of girls and women in the world.

What were your feelings about becoming the “Miss Dior Cherie” ambassador?
It was a real honour to be asked by Dior, which has such an amazing history and is such an elegant brand. It has been wonderful to see how supportive Dior has been of both my artistic endeavours and the non-profit organisations I work with such as FINCA [an organisation promoting village banking to break poverty cycles] and this girls’ education project Dior and I are working on.

Has travel changed your views?
Yes. It is so abstract to imagine someone else’s life going on at the same time, so different from yours. There are literally billions of parallel lives. So, to actually travel the world, meet all kinds of people, talk with them and hear what their day is like, what makes them happy or sad, what their problems, joys and successes are, makes it less abstract and more real: it takes you out of your own petty circumstances.

Natalie talked to UK’s InStyle about strong red lips, taming her curls, her secret perfume trick and more. See scans and read what Natalie told the magazine below!

“My mum taught me to spray fragrance and walk into it. She has a sensitive smell of smell, so I’ve grown up with a great awareness,” says Natalie, revealing why she’s perfect for her new role – as muse of Miss Dior Cherie eau de parfum.

“I associate scents with seasons and places – nuts roasting in New York are Christmas and at college, we used to get hot melted vanilla ice cream in winter, so that smell is delicious. In Tunisia [where she filmed Star Wars], the scent is jasmine. It is the most beautiful and delicate smell – I love floral fragrances.

“A scent that sets you apart makes you feel glamorous and elegant and gives you a different way of walking into a room – it’s part of dressing up.”

And her favourite smell on her fiance, Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied? “Clean and just showered.”

On Sunday night Natalie became the first graduate of Harvard College to win an Academy Award for best actress. Professors who knew Natalie during her time in college share their stories in the article below. Thanks to The Harvard Crimson.

Former Harvard Psychology Professor and Dean of the Social Sciences Stephen M. Kosslyn worked with Portman when she was a research assistant in his lab. Eight years later, Kosslyn—who recently moved to Stanford—can see a connection between Portman’s academic persistence and her industry success.

“It was very clear when she was a student that she is a very determined person and capable of focused effort over a sustained period,” he said in a statement via e-mail. “She is now demonstrating the results of that determination and focus.”

Law School Professor Alan M. Dershowitz also considered Portman an exceptional student.

“She was in my seminar called Neuropsychology and the Law, and I didn’t know who she was because her name was Natalie Hershlag,” he said, referring to Portman’s birth name. “It was a few weeks into the semester that I learned she was an actress—but she was a terrific student.”

Natalie chatted with journalists in the press room after winning her Best Actress award last night. Many questions were directed toward her pregnancy. Here are some things she said – thanks to BuzzSugar!

On her post-win haze: “It feels very very dream-like right now. I don’t really know where I am I suppose.”

On whether she’d consider naming her baby Oscar: “I think that’s probably, definitely, out of the question.”

On how the baby reacted to her win: “I couldn’t tell you. I don’t really remember anything that happened just now. But the baby was definitely kicking a lot during the song portion of the show. Little dancer.”

On her interpretation of the movie: “Well, I think that one of the most beautiful things about the film is that it can be interpreted in so many different ways. I really see it as this young woman’s coming of age and that she becomes a woman. She starts out a girl and becomes a woman. By finding her own artistic voice and sort of killing the child version of herself, she becomes a woman. I don’t see it necessarily as a death at the end like many people do.”

On what she expects from motherhood: “It’s one of the most exciting things about being pregnant is that I’m accepting complete unknown. It’s a complete mystery and miracle. It’s really just accepting that I have no idea, which is what all of us live every day.”
