The film, based on the novel by Philippa Gregory details the life of Mary Boleyn, sister to the infamous Anne Boleyn. When Anne comes back to court from France Mary is reminded of all the things that she did not like about Anne. She is intelligent, witty and over-confident, a stark contrast to Mary. Who soon finds herself as the object of King Henry's desires. Torn between her love for the Queen and her families ambitious plans Mary must sacfrice her marriage and become the Kings mistress. However Mary gives in all too quickly and soon finds that the Kings attentions have moved on to her clever sister Anne who keeps the King at arms length. Henry quickly becomes besotted with Anne and sets out to make her his queen. Even though Mary loves the King she must now help her sister on her disasterous path to the throne.
