Natalie is an avid aid worker and likes to support many charities that are close to her heart. Here are the links to her charties and some information about them. Afganistan Relief OrganizationThe Afghanistan Relief Organization (ARO) has worked on relief efforts in Afghanistan since 1998. After late 2001, hundreds of non governmental organizations (NGOs) began arriving in Afghanistan to participate in reconstruction. In 2005, the new Afghan government began a careful review and re-registration process to determine which organizations were contributing programs beneficial to recovery efforts. FINCAFINCA International provides financial services to the world’s lowest-income entrepreneurs so they can create jobs, build assets and improve their standard of living. We target the poorest of the working poor: those who have the least access to services such as loans, savings programs, and insurance. Our clients include women, who make up 70 percent of the world’s poor; individuals unable to find work in the formal sector; families displaced by war and internal conflict; the rural poor; and those affected by chronic poverty. With more than 20 years’ experience and over 500,000 clients on four continents, FINCA offers a proven solution to poverty. Food Bank For New York CityThe Food Bank For New York City, a member of America’s Second Harvest, The Nation’s Food Bank Network, was founded in 1983 to coordinate the procurement and distribution of food donations from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies to organizations providing free food to the city’s hungry. Milo Gladstein FoundationBloom’s Syndrome is a very rare inherited genetic disorder, caused by a gene that does not function properly. This creates an unusually high number of breaks or instability along their chromosomes (the structures in the cells of our body that contain our hereditary material – called DNA). This instability causes short stature, immune system deficiencies leading to frequent respiratory and bronchial infections, patchy facial skin colorations, sensitivity to sunlight, sterility, and worst of all, an extraordinarily high risk to develop many cancers and leukemia, at early ages. PETAPeople for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 1.8 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. The Lunchbox FundFounded in 2004, The idea for the fund began when a teacher from Meadowlands Secondary School in Soweto, Johannesburg, mentioned that a group of students were sitting under a tree at break time, as they had no food, and did not want to watch the others who had food eating. The Tony Blair Faith FoundationThe Tony Blair Faith Foundation aims to promote respect and understanding about the world’s major religions and show how faith is a powerful force for good in the modern world. Faith is vitally important to hundreds of millions of people. It underpins systems of thought and of behaviour. It underpins many of the world’s great movements for change or reform, including many charities. And the values of respect, justice and compassion that our great religions share have never been more relevant or important to bring people together to build a better world. Shoe4AfricaShoe4Africa was started in 1995 with the idea to take something we discard— used running shoes— and give to people who through circumstance were unable to afford. It started with the gift of a few pairs and was re-enforced by the first person I met returning from a seven month stay in Africa also (in the snow) taking off her shoes and asking for them to be sent to Africa. ListenListen is an annual global media campaign reaching more than 500 million people in 60 countries through television, radio, web, print and mobile phones. Listen harnesses the power of creative artists – film stars, music performers, visual artists, writers, directors and music producers – to create a cross-media campaign that highlights the needs of children affected by poverty, war, disease, exploitation, natural disasters and AIDS. No one is as deaf as the person who will not listen Relief for Haiti – Artists for Peace and JusticeSix months have passed since the earthquake hit Haiti. Food, water, shelter and medical care are in short supply. International relief and reconstruction efforts are slowing down when Haiti is most in need of help. APJ has been helping to provide many of the basic necessities and much needed medical care for the children of the slums. Our humanitarian projects help provide daily food and water to over 8,000 children. Our surgical team has performed reconstructive surgery on over 120 patients. APJ’s rehab center has provided more than 200 artificial arms and legs to the young victims of this disaster, and is helping these children learn to use them. Our reconstruction efforts are now expanding to provide quality education for the disadvantaged children of the slums of Haiti. We firmly believe that education is the key to sustainable recovery of this devastated nation. Relief and reconstruction is needed for Haiti, now. |
